ELLSWORTH – Ellsworth High School Principal Oran Nehls abruptly retired without prior notice on Friday, May 30, 2025, effective that day.
Ellsworth Community School District Superintendent Brian Nadeau confirmed Nehls started at ECSD July 1, 2022. He previously served as principal at Denmark and Portage high schools before coming to Ellsworth.
Nadeau said Assistant Principal Rob Heller will serve as interim principal until the district hires someone to fill the role.
“The position has been posted and we will look to fill it by the end of June, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025,” Nadeau said.
The district declined to comment on the reason for Nehls’ sudden departure.
