Ellsworth Lions expand scholarships to graduating students

Peace Poster winners announced

The Ellsworth Lions Club shows their support of community youth by offering scholarships to graduating students of Ellsworth Community School District for continued education.

The club has revised its application to read, “Open to students planning on enrolling in a 2 or 4-year post-secondary institution or trade school. If chosen, you will be asked to complete at least 10 hours of service with the Lions Club.” We eliminated the overall GPA requirement from the application.

Lions Clubs have been in existence since 1917. The Ellsworth Club was chartered in 1930 and has been serving the community in various ways since then. The motto of the Lions is “We Serve.” Applicants will be required to write an essay on what our motto means to the applicant and what it will continue to mean as the student progresses through life. The Counseling Office at Ellsworth High School has the applications available.

2023-2024 Peace Poster

For younger students of the Ellsworth community, we offer an opportunity to compete in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. In 2023, two boys entered and were awarded for their efforts. The theme was “Dare to Dream.” Caleb Bechel earned second place. Kyle Lecheler earned first place and his poster is still in competition at the District level.

The Ellsworth Lions Club has 36 members and meets on the fourth Monday of each month from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Our Feb. 26 and March 25 meetings will be held at the Ellsworth Elementary School Community Room. Lions clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
