The Ellsworth and Spring Valley Vibrant Health Clinics will close in early December.

Fairview Health Services announced important changes “that align costs, simplify the patient experience, deepen community partnerships and accelerate the system’s digital investments to prioritize healthcare affordability and health equity,” read a company statement.

The Ellsworth Vibrant Health Clinic is located at 144 S. Plum St. The Spring Valley Vibrant Clinic is located at 130 McKay Ave. will shut down Dec. 4.

The two clinics are among 16 along with five pharmacies that will close. The healthcare company says it's posted losses of $163 million in the first six months of 2020 owing to the impact of COVID-19, and revealed a program of cuts that will include the elimination of 900 positions.

“Our health system is taking several important steps forward to realize our bold vision to bring breakthrough care to more people, and to address the financial challenges all healthcare systems, including ours, are facing,” said James Hereford, Fairview President and CEO, to employees earlier today.

“The changes are steps toward the transformation we need to meet the needs of our community now and into the future,” Hereford continued. “While we must address our financial challenges, ultimately this is about ensuring our future as a thriving and innovative health system; one dedicated to helping and healing patients. To improve health outcomes and experience for our patients, we must be willing to do things differently.”

Other clinics closing are in Minnesota, as are the pharmacies.
