A Village of Ellsworth committee on Nov. 12 directed staff to study potential changes in the village’s ordinance chapter regulating smoking and vaping.
In a related matter, the village’s Health, License and Welfare Committee recommended approval of a cigarette, tobacco and electronic vaping device retail license application submitted by Ceeko tobacco 2 LLC, for a location at 335 W. Main St. The committee’s recommendation will go to the Village Board for final consideration.
On ordinance changes, Administrator/Clerk-Treasurer Brad Roy said the committee asked him to explore possible amendments covering tobacco retailing locations and a quota on licenses. Currently, the public health and welfare chapter in the village’s Code of Ordinances prohibits smoking and vaping in public places and specified outdoor venues.
Roy said the committee’s direction was “very broad” and “there could be a lot more” issues to include in possible ordinance changes, depending on the outcome of his research.
