Q&A

When did the business start?

Purchased in November 2022.

Who owns the business?

“There’s 11 of us that own it, we are all part of the ownership group. Eight of the 11 of us grew up in Ellsworth,” said Dennis Armbruster.

Owners are Kent and Amy Christiansen, Gene and Andrea Benck, Brent and Mary Spriggle, Marc and Ronna Johnson, Dennis and Bridget Armbruster and Tom Holdorf.

Why Ellsworth?

We for years, going back to when we were all living there, visited this bar on a regular basis. So it was a place we used to go, we remember it well,” Armbruster said. “We really wanted to reengage with the community, the community that got most of us started in life. For us it was kind of a no-brainer going back to Ellsworth.”

Any special events?

“As far as weekly specials, we always have $2 Tuesdays, we have BINGO on Thursday nights and we’d like to think that we make some of the best old fashioneds around,” Armbruster said.

Plans for the future?

“We’re trying to give the building a face lift. Some of that’s coming through in the front of the building already,” Armbruster said.  “We’ve got a permit expand and put a patio in the back, we’re going to have cool live music.

“The bar was originally opened by Hamm Brewing Company, and so looking at really winding the clock back to kind of celebrate the 120-year history of this bar.”

Something people should know?

“One, we welcome everyone and anyone to our bar to reconnect with old friends, and to enjoy kind of reliving a little bit of what this bar has meant to Ellsworth.

“We sponsor the Hubbers in town, and we’re trying to get as involved as we can in supporting high school programs, and local charities and things of that nature. If anyone wants events at our bar, to have an event at our bar it’s free. We don’t charge people to have events at our bar. So if anyone wants to have an event for fundraising purposes and whatnot, we try to support that in whatever way we can.”
