Elmwood School District welcomes new staff

ELMWOOD – Elmwood School District students will be greeted by six new faces when school starts Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Position: K-12 physical education teacher

Hometown: Ellsworth College attended: Minnesota State University – Mankato with degrees in human performance and health science. Also minored in adapted physical education and coaching.

Career experience: Twelve years of coaching and various staff positions in Ellsworth at both the elementary and high school levels. Experience coaching football, wrestling and baseball, along with running and fundraising for the weight room. Will be an assistant football coach and the head baseball coach for EPC.

Hobbies/interests: Sports, working out and going to concerts, along with attending Brewers, Packers and Badger games. I have a four-year-old Boxer named Griffey.

Family: Grew up on the banks of the Rush River between Plum City and Ellsworth. Son of Glen and Diana Brathall, youngest of seven kids (five sisters, one brother).

What are you most excited for this year? Excited for the opportunity to grow in my profession and be a part of a great community.

Position: Business and marketing teacher

Hometown: Elmwood College attended: UW-La Crosse, degree in finance and marketing.

Career experience: I spent the first 10-plus years of my career working in business and industry and decided to pursue my passion of teaching and learning. I obtained my teaching degree from UW-Stout and have spent the past nine years teaching business to middle school students.

Hobbies/interests: We love to spend time outside hiking, biking, gardening in the spring and summer months and snowshoeing in the winter. In my spare time I love to cook and read.

Family: Husband Ryan; sons Elliot (8) and Emmett (3).

What are you most excited for this year? I am so excited to join the team at the Elmwood School District!

Position: Fourth grade teacher

Hometown: Pepin College attended: UW-Eau Claire

Hobbies/ interests: Camping, watching Wisconsin sports, puzzles, playing summer baseball

Family: I live with my girlfriend Abby who is also a teacher, and my dog Nala who is a Terrier Mix.

What are you looking forward to most this year? A fun year filled with all the emotions a school year can bring, and to be a positive influence in these kiddos’ lives.

Position: Technology education teacher

Hometown: Elmwood. I am very excited about being able to teach in my hometown!

Career experience: I started my teaching career in La Farge, then taught in Cadott for 10 years. For the last six years, I have been teaching in Spring Valley.

Hobbies/interests: I enjoy hunting, fishing, pretty much anything outdoors. I also love cheering on the Packers, Brewers and Badgers!

Family: My family includes my wife Katie, dog Gus and soon to be Baby S.

What are you looking forward to most this year? I am looking forward to meeting all of my new students and working with the staff in Elmwood.

Position: Middle/High School Spanish teacher

Hometown: Watertown, Minn.

College attended: Normandale Community College and Winona State University

Hobbies/interests: I love to spend my weekend golfing at different golf courses across Minnesota. I also love to plan trips and set aside time to travel to Europe to visit my host families that live in Barcelona, Spain.

Family: My family and I are very close. I learned a ton of strong morals from parents, as well as what it means to act and show respect to others. I have a younger sister who is four years younger than me. As a family, we love to travel within the United States as well as go boating on the weekends during the summer. We have a family dog named Louie who has stolen all of our hearts.

What are you looking forward to most this year? I am most looking forward to getting to meet my new students and learning about them! I am excited to build the students’

Hobbies/interests: Kayaking, hiking, disc golfing, Broadway theatre, travel

Family: My spouse, Jacy Walker, teaches choir at Meyer Middle School in River Falls.

What are you looking forward to most this year? I am most looking forward to making music full time this year and getting the pep band back to the athletic events!
