ELMWOOD — Action regarding the village-owned nursing home has been a top priority for the Village of Elmwood in recent years, and the process of its sale is on the agenda at nearly every monthly board meeting.
In the January meeting, the board opted to lower the price of the nursing home by $100,000. During the March meeting, the board went into closed session and upon reconvening decided to consult with legal counsel on options for the sale of the nursing home.
In April, the board again went into closed session to discuss the sale price of the nursing home property. According to Clerk Holly Malaszuk, there was an interested party in the nursing home, and no action was taken upon reconvening.
Former village meeting minutes dating back to 2022 discussed the village board scheduling meetings with the management to “be on the same page” moving forward. Ultimately, financial and management reasons caused the village to list the nursing home. Since then, there have been interested parties in its purchase, but none have seen the process through yet.
Additionally, during open session the board discussed uncovering a time capsule buried somewhere near the nursing home sign.
“There’s some talk that there is a time capsule buried over by the nursing home somewhere near the sign. Jim Kraus verified that the other day when he was here working,” Village President Neil Boltik said. “We just have to locate it now, because the idea is that we would like to open it up for UFO Days.”
While they were unclear of an exact location at the time of the meeting, the village planned to dig near the building’s sign to see if it could be located.
At 6 p.m. on Monday, April 27, the board will hold a public hearing regarding the potential addition of a Verizon tower at Parcel 122-01003-0400. The location is right on the east county border, north of the main chunk of the village in a field south of County Road P.
“So the public is aware, we’re supposed to be getting a Verizon tower out here,” Boltik said.
The meeting is the public’s opportunity to speak on the item.
