ELLSWORTH – The public is invited to attend a free screening of the PBS documentary “The Librarians” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 5 in the Library Makerspace at the Ellsworth Public Library.
This powerful film follows librarians across the United States as they navigate increasing challenges to library materials and services. As debates over book access intensify nationwide, librarians find themselves on the frontlines of conversations about intellectual freedom, education, and the role of public institutions in a democracy.
The screening is part of Indie Lens Pop-Up, a community-driven series that brings people together for film screenings and thoughtful post-film discussions.
About the documentary
When lawmakers call for reviews of library book collections, librarians must respond to growing scrutiny over materials addressing race, history, and LGBTQIA+ topics. “The Librarians” provides historical context and examines the broader implications these debates have on public education and civic life.
A community conversation will follow the screening, offering attendees the opportunity to share perspectives and engage in dialogue.
Popcorn, candy, and beverages will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
This event is free and open to the public.
