ELLSWORTH — Ellsworth FFA is hosting a Spring Fling Vendor Market from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 14 at Ellsworth High School to show off a ton of area small businesses and their products.
This is the fourth rendition of the vendor market, starting at 65 vendors and growing to this year’s expected 110.
“The main reason why it started was because I started my own small business a few years ago to help may for my farm related hobbies. One day at work I was trying to come up with a way that I could get my name out there more and it kinda just clicked that others may also probably come across this problem. That is when I went to the high school principal to try and see what we could do to make this a possibility. I reached out to the FFA, as I know that this is an event they would most likely host. My ag teacher agreed and we hosted our first market. I wanted to get 50 vendors and ended up with 65. Over the last couple years that amount has doubled,” EHS senior Alayna Selzler said.
Selzler said they experimented with vendor markets in other seasons, but the spring turnout was hard to deny. The offerings are not only a great way to platform area small businesses, but it gives consumers an outlet to find spots that they could become future regulars at.
“I think the market has increased because after winter everyone is cooped up and it’s a great way to get out of the house. I also think since small businesses are becoming more popular, the general public is realizing that some people have amazing talents whether it’s artwork or poetry to baking,” Selzler said. “Since we have such a variety, it’s really an opportunity for the whole family since there is something for everyone. I also notice when I go to these events there is always a business or two that really stick out and you look forward to seeing. Without these events it’s hard to know what is all out there.”
While it is Selzler’s final go at hosting a vendor market, the FFA plans to continue hosting them annually in mid-March. Vendors will fill both gyms with another 30 lining the school’s halls.
“This market is simply a great opportunity for the family to get out in the spring as we have something for everyone. We have everything from fishing tackle to horse tack to kids toys,” Selzler said. “To sweeten it up we will have a slushy vendor with lots of flavors. We also will have concessions on site. We encourage everyone to stop by and get a bite to eat and search through what all these businesses have to offer.”
