This April, libraries across the country invite the community to Find Your Joy during National Library Week (NLW), a nationwide celebration honoring the essential role libraries and library workers play in enriching lives and strengthening communities.
Organized annually since 1958, National Library Week was originally created in response to concerns that Americans were reading less amid the rise of television and other media. What began with the rallying call “Wake Up and Read!” has grown into a vibrant celebration of everything libraries represent today—places of discovery, creativity and connection.
The 2026 theme, Find Your Joy, encourages people of all ages and backgrounds to rediscover the many ways libraries spark happiness—from diving into a great book to participating in hands-on activities, attending events, and connecting with others. This year’s celebration is further highlighted by honorary chair Mychal Threets, an award-winning librarian and author known for championing joyful, inclusive library experiences.
Throughout the week, the library will host a variety of engaging programs designed to inspire curiosity and bring the community together:
National Library Week is more than a celebration—it’s a reminder that libraries are dynamic hubs where learning, creativity, and community thrive year-round. Whether you’re a lifelong reader or stepping into the library for the first time, there’s something here for everyone.
This April, come explore, connect, and most importantly—find your joy at the library.
