Fireworks, family fun & food for the 4th

It’s 2021 and people are ready to celebrate after many Independence Day celebrations were cancelled last year due to the pandemic. It’s time to safely gather with friends and family for hotdogs, baseball, music and fireworks.

Here is a guide to 4th of July family fun.

Booster Days, Hudson

Booster Days is Hudson’s 4th of July celebration, held this year July 1-4 at Lakefront Park (505 First St., Hudson). The event returns after a 2020 hiatus with a limited event schedule, including a carnival, beer garden, food stands, bingo and live music. No grand parade will be held this year due to Second Street/Highway 35 road construction.

Highlights include the 22nd annual hot dog eating contest at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 3 and fireworks over the St. Croix River at dusk.

Clyde’s Corner, Beldenville

Clyde’s Corner (W7409 Highway 65, Beldenville) will host its annual 4th of July celebration on Sunday, July 4. Live music starts at 4 p.m.

Free hotdogs, chips and juice will be served. Come early to get a spot on the hill for the fireworks show at dusk.

Cannon Valley Fair

The Cannon Valley Fair (800 N. Ninth St., Cannon Falls, Minn.) will host a Grande Day Parade at 11 a.m. July 4 and a fireworks show at dusk. The 4th of July celebration is part of the 106th annual fair, which runs July 1-4.

Fireworks Extravaganza, Eau Claire

The Eau Claire Fireworks Extravaganza, sponsored by Festival Foods, will begin at 4 p.m. July 4. The show will originate from a higher elevation (Plank Street Hill) and projected higher in the sky, making the show visible from more locations. There will be no ground show of fireworks and fewer “salutes,” which are noise-only fireworks.

If watching from the couch is more your style, you can watch the show on WEAU TV-13 or WQOW TV-18. Tune into WAXX 104.5 for the fireworks soundtrack.

Island Block Party, Welch, Minn.

Treasure Island Resort & Casino (5734 Sturgeon Lake Road, Welch, Minn.) will host its annual Island Block Party on Saturday, July 3. Gates open at 5 p.m. All ages are welcome to the free holiday bash, which features live music, food and fireworks at dusk. The Rocket Man: Elton John Tribute Show is general admission, but limited reserved seating is available.

Liberty Tree Farm (W12351 Long Lane, Stockholm) will host band “Always Late” at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 4, followed by a fireworks show. Gates open at 6 p.m. Suggested donation is $10.
