More than 2,500 pairs of shoes donated in 5 years

By Sarah Nigbor

RIVER FALLS – Imagine 2,500 pairs of shoes and socks. That impressive tally is how many donations have been made over the past five years. The 13th annual First National Bank of River Falls 5K Run, Walk, Roll & Kids Fun Run is slated for Saturday, April 30 and raises funds to purchase tennis shoes for local kids in need in the River Falls and Prescott communities. The event is growing and averages 250 participants and 50 sponsorships from community partners per year.

Registration for the 5K ends April 26 and costs $25. People also have the option of participating in the Virtual 5K if they can’t make it in person. That registration fee is also $25. Kids 12 and under can participate for free.

Pre-race day packet pickup will take place in the bank parking lot (104 E. Locust St., River Falls) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 29. Race day registration will take place 7-7:45 a.m. April 30 in the bank parking lot. The 5K Family Run, Walk & Roll gets going at 8 a.m., followed by the Kids Fun Run at 9:15 a.m.

The registration fee does not include a T-shirt, but shirts will be available for purchase on race day while supplies last.

The 5K will be chip-timed by Pickle Events, using disposable timing tags attached to the bibs. Results will be available at www. pickleevents.com The course is rated as “easy” and maps are available at facebook. com/fnbrf under the FNBRF 5K event.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days or have been a close con- tact in the last 14 days, race officials ask peo ple to use the virtual option. Virtual participants can record their run or walk any way they like and submit the time on the race page any time between April 30 and May 8. They can also text their results to 49514, but be sure to include the race code, bib number and time, in that order.

Before school starts each year, the FNBRF 5K Committee works with school representatives to provide children with a pair of brandname tennis shoes for use in gym class and/ or after school sports.

“By giving back to our community schools and families in need, FNBRF is proud to be a part of taking a step in the right direction for a successful school year,” the website states.
