As autumn sweeps across the Midwest, the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center at Freedom Park invites visitors to experience the season's vibrant transformation. With its stunning perch overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers, the center offers a prime vantage point to witness the annual display of fall foliage. From mid-September through late October, the bluffs and river valleys surrounding the center come alive with a kaleidoscope of colors, from deep reds to bright oranges and golden yellows.
"Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year here," said Linda Schenk, Executive Director. "Our location on the Great River Road offers visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in nature's beauty while learning about the rich history and ecology of the area."
The Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center offers more than just a scenic view. The center has a variety of programs designed to enhance the leaf-watching experience. For those who prefer a more leisurely experience, the observation deck provides an ideal spot to relax and take in the views. Binoculars are provided at the center, allowing everyone to get a closer look at the area's abundant wildlife, including migratory birds that are often seen along the river during the fall season. Families are also welcome to explore the center's exhibits, which highlight the natural heritage of the Mississippi River and its significance to the region.
Located on the scenic Great River Road (Highway 35), the Visitor and Learning Center in Prescott is easily accessible for day-trippers and road-travelers alike. The center is open six days a week Tuesday to Sunday and admission is free, though donations are appreciated to support ongoing programs and exhibit upgrades.
Whether you're a seasoned leaf-peeper or simply looking for a peaceful autumn escape, the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center at Freedom Park is a must-visit destination this fall.
