I see the PGA is going to start up golf action on June 11-14. Almost three months after the co-vid 19 virus hit. I know nothing about golf except the modern game was started in Scotland. There are 18 holes to play for a complete game because there are 18 shots of whiskey in a bottle of Scotch whiskey and the Scottish men figured after 18 shots of booze the game should be done. *** Could the expert sports media pound the fact that the Packers drafted Jordan Love Utah State quarterback in the first round more ?? The talking heads can't believe that Green Bay traded up to get the Utah State quarterback. These guys made a bigger deal out of this draft pick than when Andre' The Giant drank 119 twelve ounce beers in 6 hours. Matt LaFleur the Packers head coach was an outstanding high school and college quarterback. His 'thing' is coaching up quarterbacks. This is the perfect situation for LaFleur to show and build his perfect quarterback over a 1-5 year period. *** Speaking of draft day, I see that Zach Baun was taken as the 74th pick in the draft. Baun is well known by the Prescott basketball fans as he and his team mates at Brown Deer defeated Prescott in the state tournament game at the Kohl Center in 2015. Baun guarded our Clay Siefert and was allowed to push Clay around most of the game. Brown Deer was a physical team to say the least. Baun was his high school teams quarterback in football, played basketball and was the 200 meters state champion in track. At 6'3 and 238 Zach Baun will have a good career at New Orleans. His dedication to the sport of football will carry him to a long NFL career. *** On the subject of Prescott graduates! Did you see that Petey Brookshaw's shot to win the state title in 2018 was voted as the greatest moment of the decade for Wisconsin area basketball? Channel 18 replayed the shot several times and Prescott wins every time. An unbelievable play that ended a Dream season of great team chemistry. I believe it was Brian Tayson who received the pass and then returned the ball to Brookshaw for the game winner at the buzzer. All great memories. *** Speaking of Pete Brookshaw ! The NDSU sophomore is listed as 5'11, 195 pounds and wears number 2 on his uniform and bats second in the lineup. When the snow was in the yard during this lockdown Pete with brothers Mike and Billy would be in the street and throwing the baseball every day. Some days Pete would sneak to River Falls and play catch with the Brewers product J.P. Feyereisen. This has been a tough time for all who are involved with sports. Look for a ray of sunshine and the Prescott Pirates with a Brookshaw infield will be back on Fire Hall field. *** I see Mike Johnson from River Falls has been hired to be Superintendent of the Eau Claire School District. Mr. Johnson has recently been Assistant Superintendent at South Washington County School in Minnesota. Mike Johnson was originally from Phillips and led the Loggers to state in basketball in 1988. Mike Johnson was named Wisconsin's Basketball Player of the year in 88. Teaching and coaching at Fall Creek and having a lot of success coaching the Crickets, Johnson's squad lost a tight contest to Ladysmith in the Sectional final in 96. Moving on to Rice Lake as a teacher and coaching saw Mike Johnson's Warriors play at state in 2002. Mike Johnson will be a good fit for Eau Claire, he is a good a man and the school board of Eau Claire made a positive choice for their community. *** A blast from the past. Prescott wrestlers had the Mueller brothers wrestling in the early 80's. In 1981 Mike Mueller was state champ at 112, while brother Dan Mueller was third place at 119. Prescott High School was a member of the Dunn-St. Croix Conference with 355 students. Ralph Chase was the coach at that time and was well respected in the high school circles as a knowledgeable wrestling coach.
