PRESCOTT — Plop, plop, plop! It must be 9 a.m. Saturday, June 5, and the start of the 2021 Kiwanis Kids Fishing Contest at Mercord Mill Park in Prescott.

It was a beautiful morning. The Boy Scouts were busy selling hot dogs. The young anglers were given goodie bags provided by Churchill Market as they registered. The anglers had two hours to fish. Everyone was having fun! Prizes were handed out to every angler. We even had some prizes for an adult drawing!

Winners in the four age groups were:

•0 to 4-year-olds: First place – Channing Brewer (.65 lb. rock bass); second place – Easton Blanchard (.56 lb. rock bass)

•5 to 8-year-olds: First place – Hannah Carlton (3.35 lb. smallmouth bass); second place – Joshua French (1.08 lb. smallmouth bass)

•9 to 12-year-olds: First place – Lauren Doffing (3.48 lb. smallmouth bass); second place – Adam Burgrios (1.85 lb. carp)

•We had no winners in the 13 and older group.

We would like to thank all the anglers and their families who made our contest another success! We had 53 anglers this year! Great job!

We would also like to thank the following for their continued support over the decades: The marinas, The Journal, Great Rivers Printing, Kitchen Table, the Boy Scouts, Jason Brazzale and the Prescott High School Fishing Team and Churchill Market (who also donated our first and second place prizes for the winners in each age group). Have a fun and safe summer! Happy fishing! See you next year!
