George William Gomoll, 79, was taken home to heaven on Oct. 14, 2023, after a long journey through cancer. He went peacefully with his wife Judy Gomoll by his side. He is also survived by his siblings Roy (Noann) Gomoll and Tina (Ouma) Gomoll, a niece and nephew, several god-children, and many beloved friends in America and East Africa.

George was raised near Ripon, Wis., with dreams of farming, saved many soldiers’ lives as a helicopter pilot/officer in Vietnam, graduated from UWRF in 1975, served farmers through Production Credit Association, and worked as a TSA officer in Denver since 2002.

But his greatest passion was sharing the love of Jesus with people. His life verse and calling from God came from Isaiah 43:4—“Since you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.” He and Judy served as pioneer missionaries with The Navigators ministry in Uganda and Kenya from 1986—2001. George will be missed by his family and many friends both in the US and Africa.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at the First Covenant Church (1354 N. Main St., River Falls, WI) with visitation at 1 p.m., service at 2 p.m., and reception following at the church.

As George requested, Judy will take his remains to Uganda for burial in 2024. No flowers, please. Memorial offerings will go toward the trip to Uganda. Cremation services provided by Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
