For a local chapter to start, they must have a current club sponsor it. The Ellsworth Lions have sponsored several in the area, including River Falls in 1937, Red Wing in 1946, Spring Valley in 1947, Prescott in 1948, Centuria in 1957 and Mondovi in 1959.
As a service organization, the Ellsworth Lions are very involved in the community and service projects such as highway cleanup, sponsoring a youth Fishing Derby at Nugget Lake, performing vision screening at elementary schools, awarding scholarships to students that wish to further their education, monetary donations to local schools to assist students in need, donating to the Nugget Lake County Park, ringing bells for the Salvation Army during the Holiday season, parking cars at the Pierce County Fair, providing Diabetes awareness information, serving free meals and providing entertainment for kids at community “at the park” events, supporting the local food shelf and giving care baskets to families in-need at Christmas time. The Club sells advertising packages for their annual calendar, as well as tickets to the Packer-Viking football games each year. They run a food stand outside the local Nilssen’s grocery store, and host occasional meat raffles at various locations in the community.
The Lions also support State and International Lions programs by donating monies to worthy causes, such as the Wisconsin Lions Camp, Wisconsin Lions Foundation, the State Lions Hearing, Youth Exchange and Missions programs, Camp Needlepoint, Lions Clubs International Foundation, Leader Dogs for the Blind, the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin and Restoring Hope Transplant House.
The 2020-21 officers are President Sharlene Kreye, Secretary Kristi Miller, Treasurer Cindi Hart, Membership Chairperson Kelly Robole, Directors Jay Nesseth, Stacey Nesseth, Lisa Bench and Margaret Voleneo, as well as Tail Twister Chuck Kreye and Lion Tamer Rosemary Matzek and 37 other members.
