Golf Course in Rice Lake on Wednesday, Oct. 7. The Cardinals had a team score of 349, followed by Central Regis/Altoona 364 Ladysmith 415, Baldwin-Woodville 423, Spooner 423, Hayward 427 and Flambeau 444.

The Cardinals had four golfers in the top six. Salay won with an 81, while Heinsch was second with an 86. Stutz was fifth with a 90 and Rohl tied for sixth at 92. Reiter finished 14th with a 95.

It was a great day on a challenging course, and the Cardinals soaked up the sun.

Coach Chad Salay looked back on his team and the season they’ve had.

“Our expectations were higher this year. Last year, we were kind of an unknown, but teams are looking out for us now,” he said. “The girls have been doing is all year. Today was kind of par for the course for us this season. We came in today ready to battle. The girls were up to the task and they earned this.”

Prescott is good top to bottom and any week the top scorers can just about be interchangeable. Rohl came on strong at the Regional meet, and Heinsch was on target at Sectionals. Salay is always on her game. Stutz is consistent, and Reiter is coming on strong.

The state meet will be a new challenge for all the teams. Prescott played University Ridge in Madison only last year, when it was state runner-up, but Blackwolf Run is going to be new to everyone.

“You’re at a new course. It’s going to be a battle. It’ going to be a new adventure. We’re up to the task,” said Coach Salay.

Ava Salay wasn’t happy with how she played at the Regional meet, where she took second. She relaxed at the Sectional Meet and wants to take that same feeling to state.

“I was honestly just trying to have fun today,” she said at Turtleback. “I wasn’t too worried about more score. I was just trying to go out and relax and have fun. It felt good.”

She likes the Cardinal chances at state.

“I’m excited. I think we have a really good team. Our team is really strong,” she said. “We have to go into it knowing it’s going to be a great experience for us. We have to have fun and see what we can do.”
