The demand for skilled healthcare workers continues to grow, yet rural areas throughout Northwest Wisconsin are facing labor shortages in the healthcare industry. To encourage interest in the growing healthcare industry, the Collaboration of Wisconsin Rural Investment in Community Healthcare (COW RICH) grant will provide financial assistance to those pursuing certain healthcare-related careers.
Available through the Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Investment Board, the COW RICH grant will eliminate financial barriers to education and training.
“This is a Department of Labor grant that we received to make this awesome opportunity possible in Wisconsin,” said Dawn Knapp, grant project coordinator. “If you are interested in pursuing a rewarding career in healthcare, this is an excellent time to get the skills you need to make your dream a reality.”
The grant is open to all students pursuing certain healthcare programs. Eligible programs available through Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College include:
•Nursing – Associate Degree •Medical Assistant
•Personal Care Worker
•Substance Abuse Counselor Education
•Phlebotomy Grant funds can be applied toward tuition, books or other factors that may impact a student’s ability to continue their education, such as childcare costs. Additional assistance outside of the grant could be available based on certain income eligibility or other factors.
As part of the grant, individuals must intend to work in select rural counties upon graduation. Individuals do not need to go to school or live in these counties currently. Eligible counties include Adams, Barron, Clark, Dodge, Fond du Lac (west side), Green Lake, Langlade, Lincoln, Marquette, Menominee, Oconto, Price, Rusk, St. Croix (east side), Taylor, Waushara and Wood.
