PRESCOTT — The Great River Road Theatre has become known for bringing good times and fun shows to the stage, and this winter is no different, as “Love, Lies & the Lottery” will take the stage at the Old Ptacek’s Event Center Jan. 30-Feb. 1 and Feb. 6-8.
The show follows a family with rising tensions that wins the lottery, bringing on a series of hilarious events.
“Buckle up for a fast-paced joy ride of crazy characters, betrayal and disguises! Ever wonder what happens when a multi-million-dollar lottery prize goes unclaimed? Poor Peter never did - until he discovered that he has a winning ticket! He has one week to claim the prize, an 82-year-old mother who just moved in to ‘help,’ her 87-year-old boyfriend, a puppy in heat, a dim-witted best friend and several other insane characters to contend with, all while trying to keep the news from his cold-hearted wife who is divorcing him. The laughs just keep coming in this zany comedy from Jim Hesselman,” the Great River Road Theatre website states.
The Great River Road Theatre crew landed on the play because it gave them a good laugh.
“It’s just so darn funny. It’s a very, very funny play. If you don’t stay with it and keep watching it, you don’t catch onto the jokes and stuff and then you miss a lot of it,” Director Judy Johnson said.
Johnson said it is an opportunity to sit down and have a laugh with friends while watching members of the community who many people know perform.
“It means everything to us. We’ve been doing this for years, and years and years, and never get paid, but our payment is just hearing the people out there laughing and seeing how many people come together to enjoy something like this,” Johnson said. “We enjoy entertaining people.”
To purchase tickets, use the attached QR code to secure a seat. The show is at 6 p.m. on the Fridays and Saturdays, and 11:30 a.m. on the Sundays. Johnson advised attendees to arrive early to get in their seats and get situated before the meal and show. Tickets are $40 and come with a meal of either turkey or ham, with the Sunday meals being pasta. There will also be sides and dessert.
