First, thanks to the hundreds of people who have come to Prescott Area Historical Society’s (PAHS) history presentations. Another successful season for all of us. Thanks to the over 20 businesses in Prescott who have made these shows possible. Who knows what next year will bring as we transition to some of the historic buildings in downtown Prescott.
This coming Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m., we will host Nancy Earhart Burt and her show featuring her cousin Amelia Earhart. Shows are free. A little theater, a little history, from a real-life relative! Can't get much better!
Join the PAHS at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, for a multi-media presentation by Chris Falteisek: “Norway & Sweden 2026: Through the Eyes of a Photographer, Historian and Musician” at the Prescott History Center, located at 235 Broad St, Prescott.
Costume Ball? Yes, from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 7. We are hoping to resurrect an old Prescott tradition: a costume or masquerade ball. During the late 1800s into the 1930s these balls were the biggest event of the year in Prescott. No TV, little to no radio, no Internet, no phonographs for most people, and so entertainment was live. The costumed attendees would come to Broad Street and create a parade down the street with a good portion of the town looking on. There were as many as 11 dance halls in various downtown buildings, some on Broad Street, others on the river front.
Admission is free; any costume works fine. There will be live music, appetizers, and drinks will be available. Be well and do good things.
