Are you interested in serving your community by running for office? If so, you can declare your candidacy and turn in nomination papers for the April 2026 election until 5 p.m. Jan. 6 at the municipality in which you wish to run.

Incumbents who are not seeking reelection must file non-candidacy papers by 5 p.m. Dec. 26.

Wisconsin has four regularly scheduled elections in 2026 — two in spring and two in fall.

Here are the dates to add to your calendar:

  • Wisconsin spring primary: Feb. 17, 2026. This primary is held to narrow down candidates for local, nonpartisan offices such as county, village, city council and school board members.
  • Candidates for local offices who move on from the Feb. 17 primary will appear on the April 7, 2026 ballot. This date is also when Wisconsinites will elect the next Supreme Court justice.
  • Wisconsin’s partisan primary is set for Aug. 11, 2026. Voters will narrow down choices for partisan offices, such as governor, the state legislature or U.S. House of Representatives.
  • The general election will take place Nov. 3, 2026, in which voters will make their final choices for partisan offices. That includes governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, state Legislature and members of Congress. For Pierce County, the list includes sheriff and county court clerk.

All 17 Pierce County Board of Supervisors seats will be on the April 7 ballot, along with many city council, village board and school board seats. Here are the seats up for election, listed with those who currently hold those positions.
