Jeremy Terrell ‘Rell’ Gooden, age 42 of Ellsworth, died Saturday, July 21, 2023. Rell was born on Feb. 17, 1980 in Mound Bayou, Miss., the son of Edward Carter and Jacqueline Gooden. He attended Shelby Elementary prior to graduating from Broadstreet High School in Shelby. Rell was a gifted athlete who enjoyed playing defensive back in football which landed him a scholarship to play at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, Miss.

Rell was a jack of all trades. One thing was certain, he worked hard and gave it all he had. He worked as a fabricator and machine press operator for Spectro Alloys Corp in Rosemount, Minn.

Rell was a simple man and his one priority was family. He loved to make others laugh, as putting a smile on your face gave him the greatest pleasure. His son Jurell and daughter Kelila were his everything. He was so proud of their achievements. He loved going to football or volleyball games and made sure those around knew it by cheering loudly. Growing up, he always looked forward to fishing with his brother-in-heart Ahdronemus in Bayou of Mississippi. Later, he passed on his love of fishing to his son Jurell. Here, great memories were created on the Mississippi River. More recently, he became a gardener. Although he was new at it, you wouldn’t have known because it was pretty much weed free.

Rell will most definitely leave his mark on this world. His bigger than life smile and genuine care were obvious. His affection for those around him and respectful demeanor will forever be missed.

Rell will remain in the hearts of his children Jurell, Kelila, and Jeremy “Jim,” father Edward Carter, mother-in-heart Dorothy Fortney; brother-in-heart Ahdronemus (Melinda) Gooden; cousins Melik and Mirio Gooden; as well as many aunts, uncles, and other relatives. His mother Jacqueline Gooden; brother Dante Alexander, and grandparents Mattie and Jessie Gooden precede him in death.

Funeral service honoring Rell Gooden was held at noon, Saturday, July 29 at C3 Church, 7562 Highway 10, Ellsworth. Visitation was one hour prior to the ser/vice at church. Burial will be with his mother, back in their hometown in Mississippi. Memorials are appreciated and will be used for the well-being of his two children. Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth.
