The Inaugural Jessy Marks Memorial Golf Tournament is set for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Ellsworth Country Club, with proceeds going to education funds for Marks’ three daughters.

Marks, 44, died in June 2024, leaving behind a legacy as someone who was always willing to help wherever he was needed.

“He was the silent giver or silent helper. He wasn’t in the spotlight, it was nothing like that. He was the parent that was at every ball game. He never missed a single thing with his kids. If someone needed help, he would help them. Never wanted recognition,” Jessy’s brother Jason Marks said.

The tournament will be played annually for five years. The event is a four-person scramble with no tee times required. Games will be played throughout the holes and there will be raffles and food. Nine holes as well as dinner are $40, a cart is $10 and dinner only is $15. Jason said with how much Jessy gave to the community, this is an opportunity to return the favor to his family.

“He was even a big part of me running the bar here,” Marks, the owner of Broz Bar, said. “Huge loss with the business and family member.”

Being a relaxed guy, golf was something Jessy loved to do, so the tournament just made sense.

“Everyone always joked, you know, he was so laid back and just easy going that the [security guard] job fit him,” Marks said.

Jason said in addition to raising money, it will be good to get all the people who knew and loved Jessy together once a year, given the busy schedules everyone has.

“Any excuse to get together, everyone, at least once a year,” Marks said.
