ELLSWORTH - Nature lovers of all ages are invited to take part in a Wildflower Walk and Community Science Activity at 4:30 p.m. May 6, meeting at the Cairns Woods trailhead at the end of W. Cairns St., behind Evergreen Estates in Ellsworth.
Participants will enjoy a guided walk through the beautiful Cairns Woods in search of blooming wildflowers and other natural wonders. Along the way, you’ll learn how to contribute to important scientific research by documenting the plants and wildlife you encounter—right here in your own community. No prior experience is needed, just a curiosity for nature and a willingness to explore.
“Community science is a powerful way for everyday people to help scientists understand our changing environment,” said Caroline Herfindahl, Youth Service Librarian and Programming Coordinator at EPL. “This walk is a great opportunity to connect with nature and make a real difference.”
Please wear sturdy footwear and be prepared to walk on uneven terrain. A smartphone is helpful for those interested in trying out nature observation apps like iNaturalist or Seek, but it’s not required.
Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or simply looking for a relaxing afternoon outdoors, this free event is a perfect way to connect with your community—and the environment.
