Journal brings 9 WNA awards home

MADISON – The Pierce County Journal received nine awards at the Wisconsin Newspaper Association 2022 Better Newspaper Contest Awards Banquet on Friday, March 24 at The Madison Concourse Hotel in downtown Madison.

The Journal competed in Division D, comprised of weekly newspapers with print circulation of 2,250 to 4,499, bumped up a division from last year.

The 2022 contest received 2,230 entries from 106 newspapers. Eligible entries were published between Sept. 1, 2021 and Aug. 31, 2022 and were judged by members of the Arkansas Press Association. 

The awards the Journal received are:

  • Best newspaper promotion, first place, John McLoone and Nancy Price
  • Best grocery ad, first place, Nancy Price, Jack McLoone, Jeff Bjork
  • Best local column, first place, From the editor’s desk, Sarah Nigbor
  • Best grocery ad, second place, Nancy Price, Jack McLoone
  • Best grocery ad, third place, Nancy Price, Jack McLoone
  • Enterprise/interpretive reporting, honorable mention, broadband series, Sarah Nigbor
  • Coronavirus coverage, honorable mention, Sarah Nigbor
  • Spot news photo, honorable mention, car fire, Reagan Hoverman
  • Best Niche Product, honorable mention, Pierce County Fair Guide, Jack McLoone, Jeff Bjork, Sarah Nigbor, Nancy Price
