PCEDC holds annual meeting at Nesbitts Nursery by Kimberly Adams The Pierce County Economic Development Corporation held its annual meeting with business leaders and members at Nesbitts Nursery in Oak Grove January 27 where executive Director Bill Warner presented the annual report for 2010.

According to the overview of the annual report, almost all of the county’s major manufacturing enterprises were in strong market niches and either completed, started, or were contemplating significant expansions in plant, equipment and employment in 2010…Guest speaker Noel Eggebraaten, President of Momentum West, an Eau Claire-based regional economic development organization composed of 10 counties, including Pierce, spoke to the approximately 50 people in attendance. One common industry in the 10 counties that make up Momentum West have in common is agriculture., Eggebraaten explained. “How do we add value to agricultural land use?” he asked the attendees.

Eggebraaten responded, “We need to get beyond thinking just regional and need to find opportunities to think global.”

One of Momentum West’s initiatives is being pro-active in promoting the region, and to work in conjunction with municipalities and townships in order to attract industry. “What do we need to look like to have a business-ready culture to help companies come to (choose) Wisconsin?” Eggebraaten asked.

Pickup recovered from icy plunge in St. Croix (photo) A special patented “sled” or ramp is one feature of All American Motors, Mankato, which is called about a half a dozen times during the winter to recover vehicles under the ice. The vehicle is worked underwater to the sled, which is put in about eight to 10 feet of water. The vehicle is then guided onto the sled, cabled down, and the whole works is removed from the water and slid across to the waiting tow truck.

Thank You Holy Spirit who solves all my problems, light all roads so that I can obtain my goals. You who give me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evils against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things and I confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in spite of all material illusions. I want to be with you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine.

Repeat this prays 3 days in succession. Upon favor being granted (remembering that ‘no’ is also a potential answer), publish in newspaper immediately.

St. Jude, thank you. G. M.

THE COUNTY BOARD.

The Board of Supervisors came together on Thursday, by call of the Clerk, for the purpose of deliberating matters relative to the office of County Treasurer.

A WAR ARTICLE.—The Richmond Enquirer of the 26th contains a most bellicose leader. It charges Gov. Hicks of Maryland, with treason for not convening the Legislature, and calls on Virginia and Maryland to adopt immediate measures to prevent the inauguration of Mr. Lincoln. It says “can there not be found men bold and brave enough to unite with Virginia in seizing the capitol and the federal defenses within the two States?” The article is significant only as it is presumed to reflect Gov. Wise’s views.
