TOWN OF ELLSWORTH – The Township of Ellsworth is excited to announce that Russell J. Korpela has been appointed as the new Town Clerk, effective April 15, 2025. Prior to April 15, Korpela will spend training time with current Town Clerk Phyllis Beastrom to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of services for the township.

Korpela brings a wealth of experience to the position, with a strong background in local government, community development, and business administration. Having served in various leadership roles, including Mayor of Ashland, Director of the Governor’s Northern Office, and Executive Director of several local Chambers of Commerce, Korpela has a proven track record of public service and community engagement. His leadership and ability to work collaboratively with local government bodies, businesses, and residents will be invaluable in his new role as Town Clerk.

“I am honored to accept the position of Town Clerk for Ellsworth,” Korpela said. “As a long-time member of the Ellsworth area, I am excited to contribute to the continued success of the Township and to support its residents and leadership. I look forward to working closely with Phyllis Beastrom to ensure a seamless transition and to learn as much as I can from her vast knowledge and experience.”

In addition to his extensive government experience, Korpela’s background in economic development, chamber of commerce leadership, and small business management has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of municipal operations and the importance of strong communication and financial oversight. His skills in managing public meetings, overseeing elections, maintaining records, and collaborating with community stakeholders will help him serve the needs of Town of Ellsworth residents effectively.

Phyllis Beastrom, who has served as Town Clerk for many years, will work alongside Korpela during the transition period to ensure a thorough handover of duties.

“I look forward to helping Russ get acclimated to the role and am confident that he will be an excellent addition to the Township,” Beastrom remarked.

The Town of Ellsworth is thrilled to welcome Korpela into this important role and looks forward to the continued growth and success of the community under his leadership.
