Michael Kosmalski has accepted and the Prescott School Board approved his selection to be the ongoing principal for Prescott’s Malone Intermediate School. Currently serving as Malone Intermediate School interim-principal, Mr. Kosmalski is a familiar face in the district, having served as a science teacher, coach and Director of Teaching and Learning over the past 17 years in Prescott.
“My experiences in leading 4K-12 professional learning plus thirteen years in classroom and coaching have provided me with the skills needed to anticipate and react to the challenges of being an instructional leader,” stated Kosmalski, adding that he could not have imagined a pathway that would have better prepared him.
“Being able to keep our school open to learning during a global pandemic took the combined efforts of every single staff member. Custodial staff drastically enhanced cleaning methods and installed hand sanitizing and bottle filling stations. Food service changed preparation, serving and check-out methods and transportation changed routes and routines while managing seating charts.”
Superintendent Spicuzza stated, “Mr. Kosmalski has been and will continue to be a valuable part of the Prescott administrative team for years to come. He has excelled in many areas during his tenure here in Prescott and the continuity of leadership is important for the overall success of our students and staff. The input and feedback from the faculty this year –during one of the most trying years of our time– has been nothing short of spectacular. It was one of the easiest recommendations to bring him forward as the right person for our Intermediate School and district team.”
Kosmalski commended the Malone Intermediate School Community for their efforts in surpassing his expectations to meet the challenges of following safety protocols, providing innovative instruction to at-home learners, and adapting to new classroom routines as well as new administrator this school year.
He was also impressed by how quickly students were able to adjust to the new normal of school. “The excitement and joy of our students in being back together at school was not dampered by additional safety procedures; this excitement has continued throughout the year.”
For the 2021-22 school year and beyond, Kosmalski looks forward to building on the positive changes that have occurred at MIS as a result of the pandemic, such as innovative approaches to teaching and learning which have led to more meaningful and engaging learning experiences. “I cannot wait to see what new and emerging practices we can refine to help our students reach their highest heights academically, socially, and emotionally.”
