Rep. Rob Kreibich (R-New Richmond) announced June 5 he will seek re-election to the Wisconsin State Assembly, looking to continue representing the 28th Assembly District, consisting of parts of St. Croix, Pierce and Dunn counties.
This past session, Rep. Kreibich fought for a bipartisan budget that delivered real tax cuts to Wisconsin families, strengthened special education funding, and helped seniors keep more of their retirement income. He worked across the aisle to invest in nuclear energy, address PFAS contamination, prohibit cell phone usage in classrooms, and support women and mothers by increasing access for breast cancer screenings and expanding Medicaid post-partum coverage to 12 months.
"Given we had a Democrat Governor and Republican majorities in the Senate and Assembly, a lot of people didn't give us much of a chance to make progress on the pressing issues we face in this state," Kreibich said. "But we met the moment and passed a bipartisan state budget and achieved other goals together in reducing taxes, housing regulatory reform, protecting children from predators, and investing in our K-12 schools. It turned out to be one of the most productive sessions in a decade."
Kreibich authored two bills that were signed into law: one increasing penalties for crimes committed against “adults at risk” and providing enhanced legal protections to ensure our most vulnerable members of society with physical or mental disadvantages are not victimized; and another streamlining the housing construction approval process for subdivisions and plats by providing certainty and transparency between developers and local governments.
Kreibich earned the Wisconsin Grocers Association Friend of Grocers Award for a bill he introduced aimed at cutting unnecessary regulations in the food industry which prompted the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) to incorporate the proposal in a rule change. He also authored a bill that would have extended the statute of limitations to go after millions of dollars’ worth of COVID-era fraud. It passed through the legislature but was ultimately vetoed by the Governor.
Protecting children across Wisconsin will remain a priority for Kreibich. This session, he supported tougher penalties for human traffickers, establishing child grooming as a criminal offense, and implementing age-verification requirements for social media platforms, app stores and adult websites.
Looking ahead, Kreibich plans to prioritize protecting communities against data centers, lowering property taxes, requiring law enforcement officers to be U.S. citizens and fighting to reduce costs for residents of his district.
Kreibich currently chairs the Assembly Committee on Commerce, serves as vice chair on the Committee on Financial Institutions, and is a member of the committees on Colleges and Universities, Housing and Real Estate, and Workforce Development, Labor, and Integrated Employment.
"As chair of the Assembly Commerce Committee, our focus was creating jobs, especially in the trades, and making Wisconsin an attractive state to start, grow or relocate a business,” Kreibich said.
