ELLSWORTH – What was Laura Ingalls Wilder really like? Find out when professional storyteller Pati Kachel steps into the role of the beloved author in “Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Little Author on the Prairie.” Through an authentic, costumed, first-person portrayal, Kachel will share Wilder’s remarkable story—from her childhood as a pioneer to becoming a bestselling children’s author at age 68.
Set in 1935, the presentation invites audiences to meet Laura as she reflects on a life filled with adventure, joy, heartbreak and hardship. Wilder’s strong faith, determination and resilience helped her persevere through difficult times and ultimately shaped the practical wisdom she shared with generations of readers through her beloved “Little House” books.
For more than four decades, Pati Kachel has brought the stories of historical women to life through original one-woman performances. She has presented her programs in schools, libraries, churches and senior centers throughout the Midwest and beyond. Based in St. Paul, Kachel travels extensively to share her heartwarming and educational historical productions.
Kachel specializes in portraying inspiring women through detailed costuming and first-person storytelling, allowing audiences to experience history from the perspective of the people who lived it. Her programs combine historical research, storytelling and theatrical performance to create engaging learning experiences for audiences of all ages.
For this presentation, Kachel will authentically portray Laura Ingalls Wilder and tell her story as if she were speaking directly to the audience. A tabletop exhibit featuring vintage American artifacts and photographs of the Ingalls and Wilder families will further enhance the journey into Wilder’s world.
“Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Little Author on the Prairie” will be presented as part of Discover Together Tuesday at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13. The public is invited to this free program open to all ages, held at the Ellsworth Senior Center, located in English Lutheran Church, 229 W. Main St., Ellsworth.
