MADISON – Tuesday, Dec. 6 Gov. Tony Evers signed into law legislation that Sen. Rob Stafsholt (R-New Richmond), along with Rep. Warren Petryk (R-Eleva) and Rep. Shannon Zimmerman (R-River Falls) introduced to help the Kinnickinnic River in River Falls reclaim its former status as a premier trout fishing destination.
“I had a great opportunity this summer to visit Glen Park and see the site where the City of River Falls wants to remove an old dam and restore the Kinnickinnic River,” said Petryk. “By passing this bill we were able to help bring restoration of this river one step closer to reality which will only add to the world class destination status of Western Wisconsin.”
In the last budget the legislature increased funding for Wisconsin’s dam removal program but due to an error in drafting, municipalities looking to remove a dam would have faced increased costs. The change that was signed into law would reinstate prior legislation. The bill, Senate Bill 140, received unanimous support in both the Assembly and the Senate.
