Lenz to play hoops at Michigan Tech, but ready for one more year as Cardinal!

Isabella Lenz took pen to paper last week, as she sets her sights on Houghton, MI, where she was recruited to continue her basketball career.

If she accomplishes half at Michigan Tech what she has at Prescott High School, she’s going to make a big impact.

Going into her final season, Lenz is all over the Prescott record books already.

She’s number one all-time with 51 points in one game and also is at the top in number of three-pointers in one game with seven. She’s also the top single-season scorer in PHS girls history with 577 points last season.

She’s number two all-time with:

•113 assists in a season.

•1,414 points overall (she needs just 132 points to break the all-time record).

She’s third with 10 assists in one game and third with 10 steals.

•229 steals.

•A free throw percentage of 71.4%.

•A three-point percentage of 35.4%.

She’s near the top also in assists.

And, she’s ready to do whatever it takes to make sure her team has a great season.

The Cardinals fell in WIAA Sectionals last year, and Lenz thinks her team is up for more this season.

“I’m really excited. I think we have a really deep team, just from open gyms the past few weeks. It’s gong to be a great season,” she said.

Lenz credited her coaches, parents, family and teammates for helping her excel so far, and she’s ready to take her game to the next level.

“I did a lot of research on different schools, and I know what I wanted in a school. I narrowed it down to three schools, and I toured all three,” she said. “I knew Michigan Tech was the place I want to spend the next four years of my life.”

“I really like the coach’s philosophies, the hard work mentality. Their winning culture has been a direct result of those philosophies, and I can’t wait to be part of it.”

Girls basketball practice tipped off Monday, so it won’t be long until Lenz can get back to work on rewriting that PHS record book!
