ELLSWORTH – The Ellsworth Lions members have been serving and are preparing for a busy spring. We held a garage sale April 20-22 and we’d like to thank all who stopped by and contributed to our donation to Hunger Prevention Council – Pierce County. We will hold another sale in September at Zion Covenant Church.

Our spring raffle for Childhood Cancer was exceptionally successful. On April 24, we cleaned the roadside of the west entrance to Ellsworth. We received 21 scholarship applications for graduating seniors. The scholarships will be presented in late May.

Our first food wagon sale is set for Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19. Stop in at Nilssen’s where fresh brats and hot dogs will be for sale. Kick off summer grilling season with us from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., both days. This is a fundraiser for our club to fund community requests. Thrivent Action Team has provided a grant to cover some expenses.

The Annual Fishing Derby is scheduled for Sunday, June 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nugget Lake County Park, N4351 County Road HH, Plum City. This event is a tradition for our club. Every child who comes to the Fishing Derby will be entered into the drawing for a kayak and other prizes. Trophies will be awarded for the largest bluegill, crappie and perch, first place through third place. A special trophy will be awarded for the smallest fish caught as well. Lion members will have burgers, brats and hot dogs for purchase. We have fishing equipment available to anyone in need as well as teaching fishing basics. If you have any questions about the Fishing Derby, please email us at EllsworthLions@gmail.com.
