Locals rise up ‘Indivisible’ to hold lawmakers accountable

RIVER FALLS – As part of the national Indivisible protest “Musk or Us,” a local group held an “Empty Chair” Town Hall meeting for Congressman Derrick Van Orden Saturday, Feb. 22 at the River Falls Public Library. Over 70 members rallied outside the library before holding the Town Hall meeting.

Protesters zeroed in on Elon Musk and DOGE’s takeover of the government and congressional inaction to defend our democracy. Van Orden was unable to attend but former River Falls teacher Ron Nelson fielded questions from attendees. The group has shared a video of the meeting with Congressman Van Orden and is hoping to have an actual face-to-face town hall with him in the near future. The national Indivisible movement was started in 2016 by two former congressional aides to resist the Trump agenda by putting pressure on lawmakers. The movement has taken root in over 4,000 independent local groups throughout every state of the union.

Indivisible River Falls is a volunteer organization started after the November 2024 election by six local women concerned about how the MAGA agenda would harm local people. It is affiliated with national and Wisconsin Indivisible organizations.

“Aligned with local priorities, we organize and act together to protect those worst affected by the recent events in Washington and on campaigns to restore and protect democracy.” said co-founder Jennifer Nelson.

The group is open to all. Interested folks may join by contacting us at indivisible.rf2@gmail.com
