ELLSWORTH A longtime Pierce County 4-H volunteer died in a tractor ac- cident at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 31 at the Pierce County Fairgrounds (364 N. Maple St., Ellsworth).
James Geraets, age 54, of Spring Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to an Ellsworth Police news release, Geraets was attempting to add ma- terial to a 6.5-foot hole from an excavating project when the tractor’s front tires fell into the hole. He was inside the tractor’s cab and when found, was unresponsive.
Responding ovcers pulled Geraets from the cab and performed life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Geraets, according to his obituary, was passionate about agriculture and volunteering. He was an active member of the Pierce County Livestock Committee and President of the Friends of the Pierce County Fair.
Ellsworth Ambulance, Ellsworth Fire, Village of Ellsworth Street Department and Pierce County Sheriu's Ovce also as sisted Ellsworth Police at the scene.
