Margaret Allen (nee Norton) died in Hudson, Wis. on June 12, 2026. She was born in Sydney, Australia on Jan. 27, 1925. Margo completed her Library Science degree at Sydney University in 1945 while working full time at the State Library of New South Wales. On Nov. 25, 1951, Margaret (Margo) married Wickham (Wick) Allen, a union that lasted nearly 74 years until his death in September 2024.
In addition to the State Library, Margo worked at libraries in Altona, Australia and Midland, Mich. Margo was a brilliant, warm and charming woman, who loved books, classical music, the theater, and welcoming friends and family into her home. She made the world’s best cheese biscuits, taught her grandchildren and countless other children how to ice skate, and enjoyed many outdoor activities, including sailing, hiking, and canoeing. For the past 19 years, Wick and Margo lived in River Falls where they made many new friends and enjoyed the stimulating community and the city’s natural beauty.
Her living close relatives include her son Nicholas Allen, her son-in-law David Trechter (Holly Trechter), two grandsons Colin (Alice Glenn) and Jeffrey Trechter, and her great granddaughter Wanda. Margo’s daughter Kristen Allen died in 2012.
Margo requested that there be no formal ceremony marking her death. She felt that the memories held in the minds of her friends and family were sufficient.
