Stroke Fatal To Miss Mary Helgeson Miss Mary Helgeson, a resident of this community for the past twenty-five years, died at the home of Axel Christenson in Ellsworth township shortly after 9 o’clock Saturday evening. Death was due to a stroke suffered two days before and other complications of old age. She was 86 years old…(Funeral was at Ellsworth English Lutheran Church and interment in South Rush River Cemetery)…Deceased was born at Alderly, this state, Oct. 9, 1848. She grew to womanhood there and went to Chicago where for many years she conducted a dressmaking establishment. She moved to this village about twenty-five years ago. When her health began to fail two years ago she went to make her home at the Axel Christenson home.
The only immediate relatives who survive are a niece, Mrs. Harry Rasmusson, Ellsworth township, and a nephew, Frank Larson, Minneapolis. A sister, Mrs. Isaac Larson, died six years ago.
ROCK ELM WOMAN DIES Miss Simon Van Nortwick of the Rock Elm community died of a heart attack Saturday night, a short time after she returned home from shopping in Elmwood. She was about 68 year of age.
Mrs. Van Nortwick is survived by seven children. Her husband died three or four years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Rock Elm Methodist church Wednesday afternoon. Among those from the community who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rice and son, Calvin. Mrs. Orin Harvey and daughter, Mrs. Effie Kendall, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Powers, E. W. Campbell and Clint Campbell.
MORE SLOT MACHINES CONFISCATED SATURDAY Undersheriff Martin L. Kjelstad and Deputy Leo Nugent netted six more slot machines Saturday night when they raided taverns at Spring Valley and Elmwood. They got two machines at the Valley and four in Elmwood.
