Perfect season propels Prescott girls to league title, WIAA Regionals start this week

The 19-3 Cardinal’s won both games they played last week. First, they hosted Osceola on Tuesday and won 66-49. Thursday, they went to New Richmond to play the Middle Border Conference’s second ranked team. After beating them 70-44 on the first of February, the Cardinals won 62-51.

In the first game, Nicole Dalman dominated and led Prescott with a 21-point, 14rebound double-double effort. Isabella Lenz finished with 17 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals. Tori Benck and Erin Boatman both finished with eight points, a pair of assists and a steal. Boatman grabbed four rebounds and Benck grabbed two. Ashley Rieken finished with six points and four rebounds for the Cardinals. Sydey Matzek finished with four rebounds to accompany two assists, steals and points.

Everything came together for the Cardinals to end the regular season as Middle Border Conference Champions.

“We really focused on playing our style of basketball and doing what we do best,” Coach Rob Radloff said. “If we did what we are

Prescott got out to a 31-18 lead in the first half behind their strong team play.

Dalman led the team in scoring again with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Lenz led the team in rebounds with 13 and scored 12 points, hitting two of four shots from behind the arc. Both Lenz and Dalman had a pair of blocks and combined for five steals to lead the team on both ends of the court. Sydney Matzek and Ashley Rieken both scored 10 points and grabbed three steals. Erin Boatman had five points, six rebounds and one assist, steal and block. Tori Benck contributed four points, four rebounds and three assists for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals hope to win this postseason “We are focusing on just having fun and working as hard as we can,” Radloff said of his team. “We will leave it all on the court and know if we win or lose, we will give it our all. Tournament time is so fun but difficult because you can go from a high to a low quite quickly. No matter what happens, I will always be proud of this team.”

The #2 seeded Cardinals host the winner of #7 Nekoosa and #10 Black River Falls this Friday, February 28.
