Melvin Gene Sieg, age 75 of Ellsworth, Wis., passed away on June 29, 2023 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. Melvin was born Aug. 10, 1947 to Raymond and Lorraine (Hatcher) Sieg of Buffalo, Minn. The family moved to Farmington, Minn. in 1960, then to Ellsworth in 1965 where he farmed with his family for many years.

Melvin was married on July, 5, 1969 to Diane Raechke; together they raised two boys, James and Richard. The boys started working on the farm with their dad and grandpa at a very young age. They will not say they always enjoyed it, but many life lessons were learned and memories made, memories they will cherish for the rest of their days and lessons they try to teach their own children. He always had a helping hand to lend to anyone in need, a great smile and that laugh, what an amazing laugh. The man’s heart was bigger than he was. Melvin wasn’t just a father to his own children but any of the boys’ friends and family that spent any time on the farm were treated as his own, whether they liked it or not (Chris Iehl). Melvin was the Best Man in Rick and Bobbie’s wedding; I mean who else do you choose for that honor other than the man you respect and admire the most? He enjoyed many hunting seasons with family and friends, loved to go fishing and spending time in his garden. As we said, we were taught many life lessons, but not the hardest one of all, how to live without him.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Lorraine (Hatcher) Sieg, in-laws Ralph and Shirley (Parmeter) Raechke, brother Michael Sieg, brother-in-law Steve Raechke and wife Susan, and niece Kelly (Raechke) Hudson.

He is survived by his children James (Krystal) Sieg of Woodville, Wis. and Richard (Bobbie) Sieg of Spring Valley, Wis.; grandchildren, Christine (Brandon) Iehl, Jimmy Sieg, Dakota Pittman, Devon Sieg, Alexa Sieg, Avery Sieg, and Jordyn Sieg; and great grandchildren, Kaiden and Lizzy Iehl; significant other Kim Gipford and her children, JR (Rachel) Driscol and Tiffany Ray, and their children, Aspen, Haley and Cherish, Alice and Christian (Little Dude) and one great grandchild Kimber; siblings Judi (Paul) Nielsen, Jerry Sieg, and Connie Gosset; many nieces, nephews, other family and numerous friends.

Luncheon to follow at Rick and Bobbie’s home.
