In the Middle Border Conference, the Ellsworth and Prescott girls’ volleyball teams were in action throughout last week. In the Dunn-St. Croix Conference, Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City were also in action.
Ellsworth had a match at home against Elmwood/Plum City on Thursday, Sept. 2. Plum City got out to a quick start by winning the first set 25-14 and winning the second set 25-17. The third set was more competitive. Ellsworth began to mount a comeback, but it fell short, resulting in a 25-21 loss. The loss moved Ellsworth’s record this season to 1-6.
The 3-0 sweep victory for Elmwood/Plum City improved the team’s record to 2-2 for the 2021 season. The victories include matches against Durand on Aug. 24 and Ellsworth on Sept. 2. The losses were against Hortonville and Prescott at the UW-Stout Sprawl tournament on Friday, Aug. 27, and Saturday, Aug. 28. The lone victory in conference play put Elmwood/ Plum City in a tie for first place in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference standings. The next match for Elmwood/Plum City is on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Elmwood Invite Tournament – the opponent is still TBD.
The Prescott girls’ volleyball team’s only series of games during the 2021 season was at the aforementioned UW-Stout Sprawl tournament. On Friday, Aug. 27, the Cardinals volleyball team played four games including three losses and one victory. The lone win was the first game of the tournament against Rice Lake. The three matches after that included losses against Cadott, St. Croix Falls and Wausau West.
The second day of the sprawl tournament featured Prescott playing games against Elmwood/Plum City, a match that the Cardinals won, and losses against Oshkosh West and Colfax. The Cardinals now have a sizable break between matches for the regular season. Prescott’s next match isn’t until Thursday, Sept. 16, on the road against St. Croix Central. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Spring Valley has a 4-3 record for the 2021 season and is tied for first place in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference standings. The record includes wins against New Richmond and Amery at the New Richmond Quad, as well as losses against Hayward and South Shore. On Thursday, Aug. 26, the Cardinals finished a tournament in Boyceville with two consecutive wins. The first was against Boyceville and the second was against Lake Holcombe. On Tuesday, Aug. 31, the Cardinals lost a home game 3-1 against the Cameron Comets.
The next game on the schedule is Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Baldwin Woodville Quad. The first opponent at the quad is still TBD, as well as the start time for the tournament.
