Start your own pandemic

Say What? Yes! Not the Chinese type, but your own personal pandemic.

Ever notice how much better your day is when you start out with a smile? In these trying times it sometimes becomes hard to smile, but for those who choose to wear a smile, the act does start a trend with everyone you meet as sure as the other pandemic we are living with.

We heard of a woman who worked in a closed off office all alone. It was a depressing place and she always listened to the friendly banter of her colleges outside her door. She felt alone and unhappy with her work. One day she decided to change her attitude and started each day in the mirror with a smile. Wherever she went that day she greeted her co-workers with a friendly smile. And sure enough her days became more productive and her colleges started treating her differently. More friendly. More like a family member who was eager to see her.

All this with just a smile. Not a grin, but a full on wide mouth smile. It tells the people you interact with you are genuinely happy to see them.

There is another story of a young baby girl who was born without legs. Her parents did not want her and she was put up for adoption. A family adopted her and early on told her that “You will not hear us use the word can’t.”

As she grew to be a young girl she took an interest in gymnastics and began working out at a very young age. Since she never heard the word can’t, she became a remarkable athlete. She even went on to win national awards for gymnastics. _ She always wanted to be like her hero, a world class gymnast, as she made that come true.

It all started with a smile and continues today.

So if you want to be happy start every day with a smile and share it with everyone you meet. After all, there is no such word as “can’t.”
