Mobile bookstore coming to Elmwood

ELMWOOD — Gilda Bour had a request to park a book trailer store at 116 S. Main St. in Elmwood a few times each month approved at Monday’s meeting of the Elmwood Village Board.

“My goal is hopefully, in the next 5-10 years, make this town more than it is, bring more business in and this is my first step,” Bour said. “We have a mobile bookstore that we are taking to all towns but Elmwood right now, and I’d like to, a couple times a month, bring it into Elmwood.”

Bour is additionally opening an indoor bookstore in the winter. The trailer will not come around in the winter, but Bour’s indoor store will be open. Village President Neil Boltik said he visited the trailer when it was at UFO Days and enjoyed it.

“People are loving it. It’s being very well received. Right now, we’re out of more than half stock,” Bour said. “We sell out quite a bit.”

The board and American Legion discussed going after a grant for work on pickleball courts at the park. The plan is to focus on refinishing the court, and if they want to go steps further, like lighting the court, they will discuss it when they have more information. The board gave the go ahead to start looking at possible grants.

The board approved the purchase of paint to be used on the village-owned Well House. The American Legion is planning to supply the labor for the project.

The board approved noise exemptions, a street use permit and a liquor license for the annual Fire Department Chicken Dinner Sept. 12. The board also approved a street use permit for Sacred Heart Church’s Eucharistic Procession.

The board approved the 2026 tax exemption for the Elmwood Public Library. The board also approved an exception to the kennel license process, allowing a resident who already moved into the village to keep their three dogs. The village has a limit of two dogs without a kennel license, so the board opted to allow the family to keep their three dogs, and when one passes, they will not be allowed to go back up to three dogs. The board decided that was a fairer option than forcing the family to move or get rid of one of their dogs.

The village recently unveiled its new website, which can be found at vi.elmwood.wi.gov
