Baldwin-Woodville hosted a quadrangular on Thursday night between Baldwin-Woodville, Bloomer-Colfax, St. Croix Falls, and Prescott. The Cardinals entered the night 0-4 in dual matches but had been competitive in their matches. Thursday was a difficult night as their three opponents had more wrestlers in their lineups, again meaning the forfeit points would add up in the team totals.
Prescott lost to conference rivals, Baldwin-Woodville, by a score of 66-6. Prescott sent six wrestlers to the mat. The Cardinals would win two matches by decision and lose four matches, all by fall. Without forfeit points, Prescott would lose 24-6. In their match with Bloomer-Colfax, Prescott sent out the same six wrestlers. In this match there was five weight classes where neither team had a wrestler. The third match for Prescott was against Saint Croix Falls. Prescott lost 78-6.
Benny Olson wrestled all three matches at 106. Olson would finish 1-2 on the day. Benny had a win by tech fall against Bloomer-Colfax. The 23-8 win was the highlight of the match for Prescott.
At 132 pounds, Alex Iberg again wrestled for Prescott. Iberg was 4-0 on the season easily winning each match. but he dropped three at the quad to fall to 4-3 on the season. Coach Jordan Poirier knows Alex will rebound, “Iberg wrestled some pretty good competition. He wrestled some quality wrestlers. He needs to just get back in the room and continue to get better at his positioning.”
Lono Thomason wrestled at 138, after starting the season at 145. Poirier explained, “As we move closer to Regionals, guys will start to move to the weight classes that they want to wrestle at for the state series.” The freshmen continues to impress, as Lono would finish 1-2 on the day. Thomason scored three points for Prescott with his 6-1 win against Baldwin-Woodville.
Freshman Nolan Thomley wrestled at 145. Thomley had wrestled previously at 152. Nolan finished 0-2 on the day losing both matches by fall.
Sam Murphy wrestled at 152. Sam also dropped down a class Thursday. Murphy dominated this day going 3-0 with one win by fall. Sam earned three points with a 9-7 versus Baldwin-Woodville, four points in a 14-5 win against Bloomer-Colfax, and six points with a win by fall against Saint Croix Falls. Poirier said “Sam continues to improve on his feet and is learning how to maintain his positioning on his feet. He is wrestling with a lot of confidence on his feet. He continues to improve his mat wrestling abilities. He is getting comfortable at 152 and I am looking forward to what the next couple of weeks brings for him.”
Alex Holt took over at the 160-pound class. Alex finished the day with a 0-3 record. He was able to go the distance against Bloomer-Colfax in a 14-5 loss.
The team wrestles Thursday at Chippewa Falls in a quad meet with Ellsworth, Chi-Hi and Menomonie.
