EMS Color Run is back!
Things were looking bad for the Color Run Thursday, May 27, when it was scheduled. If you recall, temps were in the 40s with high winds and pelting rain. Lucky for all of us, the scheduled rain date was Tuesday, June 2. It could not have been a more perfect day for the fifth annual EMS Parents’ Club Color Run.
The Parents’ Club hosts this fun, middle school-centric fundraiser every spring to help pay for great school activities the next year. This year, the Color Run brought in more than $8,000 to support your children’s education. Top fundraising prize winners this year were:
•Top fundraising $100 prize: DJ Brenner ($280 raised)
•Second place $50 prize: Breanna Sympson ($200 raised)
•Third place $25 prize: Avery Boelter ($190 raised) Thank you to the nine local business sponsors who supported the run and to the district maintenance department for getting the trails and the school forest in such good shape for the run.
In other EMS Parents’ Club news, this year’s two $500 scholarships went to seniors Jack Olson and Emily Mallon, who participated in the first EMS Color Run.
EMS Spring band & choir concerts turn out great!
It was a long time coming and certainly not like it used to be, but last week Band Director Jake Kobberdahl and Choir Director Isabelle Devereaux, along with their excellent middle school music students, were able to pull off concerts. Believe me when I say, they were not just concerts for the sake of having concerts. These kids put on performances! The playing and singing were tight and strong.
Clearly, teachers and students alike were able to weather the storm that was the 20202021 COVID school year and end up growing a great deal in their craft. No classes have been impacted the way music classes have this year. Neither choir nor band were ever able to have large group class sessions, only practicing in the gym a couple of times this year. That said, all the individual and small group work has paid off. They all made lemonade out of lemons! For those of us who were able to attend, they were two really, really great evenings. Finally, something felt a little like normal. Thanks Ms. Devereaux, Mr. Kobberdahl, and all the band and choir students who made it happen.
