RIVER FALLS – There were no injuries reported in a structure fire at a residential home on South Sixth Street in River Falls at 7:44 a.m. April 6.
“Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions throughout the structure. Firefighters quickly initiated a fire attack and were able to bring the fire under control. Crews then conducted a thorough search and checked for any extension of fire within the home,” a news release from the River Falls Fire Department states.
The department was aided by the City of Hudson Fire Department, Roberts Warren Fire and Rescue, United Fire and Rescue, the Ellsworth Fire Department, the Spring Valley Fire Department, the Prescott Fire Department, the River Falls Police Department and Allina Health on the scene.
“It’s great in the communities and the areas that we live in how much support there is from our surrounding mutual aid departments and how well we work together. Not only River Falls Fire is there to help the community, but we also have our departments and other agencies in the area that help out a ton.,” River Falls Fire Chief Justin Wilson said.
There is a fundraiser set up for the homeowner of 25 years, Barb Zeroth. Zeroth and her daughter ran a daycare out of the home. Funds raised will go toward clothing, temporary housing, replacing basic household items and rebuilding their home and daycare business. As of April 7, the page has raised over $10,000. To donate, go to www.gofundme.com/f/rebuild-barbs-home-and-daycare-after-the-fire.
“Barb is more than a daycare provider — she is mom, sister, grandma, great grandma & friend. She can be found cheering at countless River Falls sporting events and supporting local families. With children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply rooted in the community, Barb has spent years giving her time, care, and heart to those around her. Many families have trusted her with their little ones, and she has been generous beyond words to those in her community,” the GoFundMe page states.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation according to Wilson.
“Not at this point, we’re not sure. I know there’s insurance companies and others that are out there taking a look at stuff,” Wilson said. “It was unintentional. Nothing of suspicion.”
