What are the biggest challenges faced by the township? Maintaining and enhancing our infrastructure. Our residents should carefully examine property tax statements to better understand the small fraction of funding that is actually realized to support local units of government. Road repair and plowing, roadside mowing, right-of-way maintenance, signage, road reconstruction, fire and EMS services, and a plethora of competing priorities stress our budget discussions each year. I am not an advocate of increased taxation or more government regulation that increases the financial burden on our residents; however, we need to continue thoughtful conversations and input to provide the level of public services that residents in Oak Grove expect and appreciate.

What are the strengths of the township? Beauty, quiet, thoughtful growth, progressive yet respectful of our basis in agriculture.

Why should people vote for you? I have earned a reputation of being a voice of reason when the board has faced difficult and/or competing interests and I am committed to maintaining that approach. I have utmost respect for the contributions made by my elected predecessors, lifelong residents of Oak Grove, and I have learned much from each of them. It is incumbent upon this board to balance the ideals of the past with the expectations of the future.

What is your favorite part of living in this township? How long have you lived here? Rita and I have lived in Oak Grove for 14 years and absolutely love it. We, like many newer families in our township, moved here from the Metro suburbs to enjoy the quiet, wide open spaces that country living provides. We grew up in the country as youngsters and it feels great to be back! The preservation of all that we love about this area balanced against thoughtful growth, land use, infrastructure and public safety needs, and affordability will always be front of mind as I continue my service to our fellow residents.
