On Display in the Local History Vault: Soar Into the Past: Pierce County Aviation

In the Makerspace: Explore Watercolor! Coloring pages and games always available. Keep an eye out for pop-up activities!

Oct. 1-7 is Banned Books Week, which highlights the value of free and open access to information and spotlights historical and current attempts to censor books in libraries and schools throughout the country.

Oct. 2 is World Read Aloud Day. Grab a book and a loved one and read aloud today. We are also using this day to celebrate a new look for our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. Stop in to take a look and learn more about starting your child on their 1000 Books journey.

Stitchin’ Time Crafters: 10 a.m. Wednesdays Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25. Do you knit, crochet, cross-stitch or do other handicrafts and want to connect with others who do too? Join us on Wednesday mornings for crafting and socializing. (Location: Meeting Room)

Morning Storytime: 10:10 a.m. Fridays Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27. (Location: Storytime Playspace)

Tech Time: 10:30 a.m. Oct. 9. One-on-one assistance from our tech expert, Barb. Call the library for an appointment time. Barb will be available for three half-hour time slots every second Monday of each month. (Location: Study Room)

Discover Together Tuesday: 11 a.m. Oct. 10. Enjoy the music of local River Falls musician, Harm Bents. Bring your singing voice as Harm will be asking us to sing along to a few tunes. A meal sponsored by the Ellsworth Senior Center and the Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library will follow. This program is open to people of all ages. (Location: Ellsworth Senior Center)

Doodle Club: 4 p.m. Oct. 10

Morning Book Club: 10:30 a.m. Oct. 12. We will discuss “Bewilderment.” (Location: Meeting Room)

WiSciFest: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 14. We are kicking off WiSciFest early by getting together to view the partial annular solar eclipse. Free eclipse glasses will be available for at home or library viewing in the days leading up to the event. Come view and learn about this eclipse, what causes eclipses, and stay to create some special eclipse related arts and crafts projects. (Location: Outside the library and in the Makerspace)

National Friends of Libraries Week: Oct. 15-22 learn more about our local Friends group and consider becoming a member. The Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library can be found online at www.friendsofepl.org or on Facebook.

Therapy Dog Maggie: 4 p.m. Oct. 16; sign up for a time slot for one-on-one time with Maggie.

Wisconsin Science Festival Week is Oct. 16-22. It celebrates curiosity and features science related events for all ages held throughout the state. Visit wisconsinsciencefest.org to search for events near you.

LEGO at the Library: 3:30-5:30 p.m. Oct. 17

Science and a Story: 6 p.m. Oct. 18 enjoy stories and science experiments that fit those stories; crafts and snacks. All ages welcome but geared toward school age children and their families.

Community Book Club: 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 we will discuss “Sea of Tranquility.” (Location: Meeting Room)

Robotics Exploration: 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Oct. 21, for ages 8-plus. Registration is recommended.

Tuesday Tales Storytime: 10:10 a.m. Oct. 24, check out a new monthly storytime offering full of stories and songs followed by snacks, arts and crafts and a time for play and socialization. (Location: Storytime Playspace)

Teens, Tacos and TAB: 6 p.m. Oct. 26 (Location: Teen Room)

Calling all teen photographers. The library is hosting a Teen Photo Contest. Submissions will be due Nov. 8. Start capturing “Moments in Time” and enter up to three photos. Full details are available online and at the library.

Main Street Trick or Treat/Fifth Annual Scarecrow Contest: 3-5 p.m. Oct. 31. Businesses, churches and civic organizations are invited to participate in either the Main Street Trick or Treat or Scarecrow contest; we have space below the old bank drive thru for groups without a storefront on Main Street and businesses looking to collaborate or offer a site for a scarecrow. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
