[email protected] On Saturday, the Prescott Wrestling team travelled to Arcadia for the WIAA Regionals. Seven Prescott wrestlers would be wrestling on the day. Each weight class was bracketed and first, second and third place finishers where awarded.
“We had an up and down day. We had a very good first round, which propelled us into the semi-finals. Everyone competed and I was really proud of how everyone wrestled,”_stated coach Jordan Poirier.
106 Benny Olson (8-5) Benny won his first-round match by fall at 1:19. In the second round he lost by fall at 3:15. This put him in the third-place match. Benny would then lose by fall at 3:13, to finish in fourth place.
126 Alex Iberg (9-4) Alex won his opening match by fall at :30. Alex lost his second- round match by fall at 3:13. Alex then won his third-round match by fall at :54. Alex finished in third place.
132 Brody Linder (1-6) Brody won his first-round match by fall at 3:01. He lost his second-round match by fall at 1:26. In the third-place match, Brody lost by fall at :13 and finished in fourth place.
138 Lono Thomason (4-4) Lono won his opening match by major decision 11-1. He lost his second match by fall at 3:30. Lono won his third match by a 6-4 decision. Lono then lost by fall at 5:03 to finish in third place.
145 Nolan Thomley (5-8) Nolan won his first match by fall at :50. He lost in round two by major decision 11-0. Nolan won his third match 8-2. He then won by a 5-4 score to finish second.
152 Sam Murphy (12-0) Sam earned a first-round bye as the top seed. In round two, Sam won by fall at 4:56. In the championship match, Sam won by technical fall 16-1 and won the bracket!
160 Alex Holt (6-6) Alex lost his opening match by fall at 5:03 and was eliminated.
“As far as the team goes, their competitive season is done. With two athletes still left competing the focus really shifts to their individual efforts. Practice gets unique now with less athletes left to compete. Individually Sam and Nolan will be the focus this week for sectionals. Sam continued his dominance this year by pinning and teching _his way through the tournament. I am looking forward to this upcoming weekend to watch this continue. Nolan put together quite the wrestling performance _at Regionals. He came in as the 4 seed. He finished in second place, with his only loss being to the 1 seed. I am looking forward to watching him compete again this Saturday,” said Poirier.
