The Panther baseball team dropped to 2-4 in Middle Border Conference play with a pair of losses last week.
The Panthers took some momentum in the week after defeating Saint Croix Central, 8-3, on the road on May 7.
A big fourth inning in that game was parked by runs batted in by Anthony Madsen and Carter Pierce. Ellsworth picked up 11 hits against Central, with Landon Edgar, Pierce and Ian Matzek with multiple-hit days. Edgar also picked up four of Ellsworth’s 13 stolen bases on the day.
Beckett Catron picked up the win on the mound for the Panthers, with just two earned runs allowed on the day.
Somerset 4, Ellsworth 1
The Panthers outhit Somerset 7-6 at home last Tuesday but lost where it matters, in the runs column. Three Ellsworth errors aided Somerset.
Somerset picked up one run in the first inning and one in the sixth. Ellsworth answered in the bottom of the frame, but Somerset picked up two more in the top of the seventh.
Ellsworth lead-off hitter Jack Voelker singled and made it around on a Tanner Pechacek RBI single for the lone Panther run.
Urban Broadway pitched a solid five innings for Ellsworth, giving up three hits and striking out seven. Matzek came on in relief and notched two strike outs.
Osceola 7, Ellsworth 1
A big fourth inning buried the Panthers in a road loss at Osceola Thursday.
The Panthers picked up nine hits in the game with Matzek, Edgar and Pechacek each having a multiple-hit day. Matzek finished with three hits.
Ellsworth’s lone run-scoring rally came in the third inning when Kaeden Graf reached and was knocked in by Pechacek.
Catron took the loss on the mound for the Panthers, pitching 3.1 innings. Graf came on in relief.
